HEALTHY COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

Kid, Family and Community Fitness: Healthy bodies and healthy minds
Since the 1970s, obesity has more than doubled among children
2 – 5 years old and almost tripled among school-aged children aged 6 – 19 years.  There are many contributing factors; some controllable, others not. Learn about programming for kid’s health and fitness and some of the initiatives California has adopted.  Strategies to help families and community members become more active in fitness and community programs will also be discussed.
Presenter: Jamie Carlson – Roseville, CA

Neighborhood Health, the Built Environment and Building Collaboration
Healthy neighborhoods extend well beyond the purview of public health and land planning professionals. This interactive workshop explores a broadened definition of health, its interdependency with the form and content of built environments, and how to involve a diverse array of professionals in local residents’ efforts to develop healthier communities.
Presenters: Bob Lutz, MD MPH & Bob Scarfo, PhD – Spokane, WA

From Schools to Streets: Bicycle Promotion
