Planning for Energy Security & Climate Change
The City of Spokane has created a sustainability strategic action plan for city governments to use when addressing and preparing for energy security and climate change; first, leading by example and helping the community to “go green.”  Tackling these complex issues now will ensure the resilience and prosperity of Spokane’s future.

Implementing Innovative Energy Efficiency Initiatives
Community organizations have partnered with Avista Utilities on innovative neighborhood initiatives that assist residential customers in implementing energy efficiency measures in their homes.  These programs assist neighborhood residents with lowering energy bills and making homes more comfortable.  The cooperative approach has been well received by the community and participating organizations.  This approach enables neighbors to help neighbors with results that build better community relationships.

Take Charge!
Learn how greening and healthy initiatives save money while saving energy and help neighbors live healthier.  Projects such as farmers markets and neighborhood community gardens involve locating and utilizing partners and resources. This workshop reveals how to take charge and save energy and money, and how to locate partners and resources. Discussion of participants’ ideas and tips to follow.

The DISH Project: Designing An Affordable Deep Green Home in a Low-Income, High-Crime, Urban Community
The Deliciously Innovative Sustainable Home (DISH Project) is a demonstration project delivering practical, affordable, deep green design in the heart of West Central neighborhood. This interactive session will engage participants in an eco-charrette to design a menu of sustainable features. Bring a passion for equity and knowledge of green to create a truly remarkable demonstration home for all.

Greener is Cheaper and More Profitable: Using Growth Management to Create Sustainability and Economic Vibrancy in Neighborhoods
When trying to “go green,” choices are largely dictated by how each neighborhood is built.  Come learn simple principles of growth management and community design, and discuss what has and has not worked in Washington State. Pick up some great resources to promote community engagement.
