How many years have you been involved with NUSA?

I have been a member of NUSA since 1978 and have attended 45 conferences. Sometimes referred to as “The Father of NUSA” because of my longevity with the organization.

What motivates you to serve on the NUSA Board?

To be involved in a national organization to create an environment where neighborhood-minded activists, i.e. grassroots, practitioners, elected officials, faith-based, academics, etc. can learn best practices, share new and innovative ideas, exchange experiences, networking, and developing approaches to address neighborhood concerns.

Favorite part of the NUSA conference?

Direct interaction with other attendees is one of my favorite parts of the NUSA Conference. It provides an opportunity to meet new people and renew friendships/relationships to share and exchange new ideas and approaches to strengthening neighborhoods.

Additional comments?
Since 1978, I have always demonstrated my commitment and dedication to NUSA by encouraging citizen engagement and participation, inclusiveness, and representation that is reflective of a national organization. I’ve been able to share the history of the organization (NUSA), so the Board can be reminded and focused on the foundation, goal, mission, and intent that the organization was founded.
I have also attempted to be an asset to NUSA, its new membership, and incoming Board Members by acting as a role model and mentor to strengthen NUSA, and future generations of neighborhood activist.
